Open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. except holidays.The processing fee is $20 in Bartow County, plus a $24 USPS Money order payable to the GBI for the background check. The fingerprint cards are provided at the Probate Court. You take them with you to the Sheriff's Office, which is just a mile or two away.

There was, of course, the one woman who tried to interject erroneous information, as well as the waiting time to get the Permit back from the GBI, which has gone on now longer than I really think it ought to. But the people at the Probate court were very polite and helpful, and the people at the Sheriff's office, aside from being misinformed, were professional and generally courteous.

I applied on my 21st birthday, which was October 22. The last time I checked on the status was Dec 10, and they told me to wait 2 - 4 weeks more.

Also, Cartersville Main Street is no longer exit 124; its now 288 (I think).

Twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for Probate Court Fee. This may be either cash, money order or personal check.

Fingerprinting will be done at the Chatham County Sheriffs Office, located in the Walter Mitchell, Jr. Detention Center at 11050 Carl Griffin Dr. The Sheriffs hours for printing are 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., therefore you should be here no later than 3 p.m.
A $24.00 MONEY ORDER or CASHIERS CHECK made payable to the G.B.I. will be given to the Sheriffs office.

First time applications usually take four (4) to five (5) months. Please wait at least four (4) months before calling to check on your permit.
