CLARKE COUNTY Probate Court Location: Clarke County Courthouse 325 E. Washington Street Room 215 Athens, GA 30601 Tel: 706-613-3320     Apply at the Probate Court window inside the Clarke Co. courthouse building, M-F from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Applications must be made in person, and they do not allow you to take the application outside of their office. Fill out the application, and show proper ID to the clerk. You must write a check to the ACC Probate Court for $17.00. (personal checks were accepted without a problem) They will then give you back your application papers and fingerprint cards, which you should immediately take downstairs to the Sheriff's Department window. They will require $36.00 from you to fingerprint you and run the required GBI/FBI checks. According to the Probate Court clerk, the permit can take up to 6 months to arrive. It will be mailed to you at your listed address. Personal comments: It took 53 days in my case. On advice to check with the Probate Court after 50 days, I went back to the clerk on the 53rd day. The judge had just finished processing my license, so they just handed me my permit on the spot.
