Coffee Corner
"Coffee"...
She smiled. Her favorite coffeehouse, of course, wasn't a place
she could walk into and smell the strength of the brew. Nope, it was
a place that existed, all right, somewhere between here and there,
between then and now...
She thought of the many patrons, the sound (ah, but, had she
ever really heard it?) of their laughter, their deep conversations, the
past and it's disillusionment, the future and it's fears...anger, even
tears, mixed with the wistful sound of their voices as they talked of
tomorrow, and of their dreams...
"Dreams" the proprietor had whispered "dreams are just
memories waiting for a place to happen..."
She had believed. Deep down, don't we all?
The SinPar Cafe was, for a brief and shining moment, a place of
comraderie and caring, of intelligent conversation mixed with a large
dose of sophmoric pranks. It was a group of single parents who had
found each other in that most unlikely of places, their computer
terminal. Reaching out, sharing the day to day drudgeries and their
hopes for the future, they were able to escape the routine of babysitters
and pediatrician bills and trying to figure out whether hot dogs or
macaroni & cheese had the most nutritional value...and for just a little
while...
We were able to relax, (with grown-ups, even!) and remember that
the world was full of possibilities...
Of course, to such a wonderful fairy tale, there must come a big
bad monster...the monster of the SinPar was none other than...cringe!
Per-hour charges on the network we belonged to. Though we were
chock full of brains and imaginations and talent, we were,
unfortunately, real short on cold, hard cash...
We went our separate ways. Held together by the strands of our
SinPar loop, remembering the past, wondering...
Luckily, there are some real Netheads among us (and some
Netheads-in-Training, (NITS) such as myself, amazed at it all...)
Homepages? Newsgroups? Web Browsers and Graphics and...
it looks like we found our place to happen all over again!
The SinPar Cafe, hopefully, will soon encompass a Newsgroup or
two, a few "off the beaten path" detours, and the laughter and
companionship of the old days. We hope you'll be able to join us and
share it all. Stop back soon, and hopefully, instead of reading US,
we'll be able to read a little bit about YOU...
The proprietors make a really mean cup of cappuccino...and the
bongo drums aren't just decorations
